AIRI-Wine Austria: the highest AI visibility of all five countries — and a paradox
A 20% average — the best of the five countries. And one estate that is practically unreachable for AI crawlers, yet still appears in 39% of answers.

At 20% industry average, Austria achieves the highest AI visibility of all five countries measured. Domäne Wachau leads on 47%, followed by a tight field of Wachau and Kamptal estates (Hirtzberger, Gobelsburg, Bründlmayer, F.X. Pichler — all 36–39%).
The country also delivers the most instructive paradox of the whole series: Weingut Franz Hirtzberger scores 1/100 on AIRI — its website is practically unreachable for AI crawlers — and still appears in 39% of answers. Reputation carries it. For now. Because AI systems can only recommend what sits in their training data and search sources; whoever is invisible to crawlers fades a little further with each model generation.
The ranking
The first two columns show the outcome — how often AI names the estate. The last two show the website side — how well AI systems can read it. The two measurements are independent and often diverge; that divergence is the finding.

What the AIRI dimensions show
| AIRI dimension | Panel avg. |
|---|---|
| LLM instructions (llms.txt) | 2/100 |
| Structured data | 35/100 |
| Freshness | 69/100 |
| Technical basis | 73/100 |
| Content quality | 77/100 |
| AI crawler access (robots.txt) | 77/100 |
| Crawlability | 82/100 |
| Brand clarity | 84/100 |
Austria’s Achilles heel is the same as everywhere, only more pronounced: LLM instructions 2/100 — the lowest figure in the entire series. Not one of the country’s 20 largest wineries provides an llms.txt. Whoever acts first here differentiates themselves from the entire industry with an afternoon of work.
